Do you have doubts about including your skills in the curriculum vitae? In the current world of work, a curriculum vitae that includes only the studies and experience gained has become obsolete. Companies today go much further and look for brilliant professionals not only in the academic aspect but also in the personal and skills aspect.
In fact, the growing access to university studies and its great popularity among the Spanish and European population has caused each generation to be more prepared than the previous one in the academic aspect. Therefore, the only way to differentiate and offer added value to the organization, company or institution you want to access is by identifying and presenting your skills in the CV in a correct and influential way.
For all this, it is necessary to identify what are the skills demanded by companies and how it is recommended to present them to get the most out of your curriculum.
The section dedicated to the skills and aptitudes of your curriculum is one of the most important spaces of the CV. As we have indicated previously, this section is where you present yourself as the person you are, where you highlight your skills in terms of work and the way you work. It is the showcase of what you can get to contribute to the company and, therefore, a place where the objective will be to differentiate yourself from the rest of the people being true to your being.
In the following lines, you will find a list of possible skills that you can include in your CV. It is not necessary that you include each of them. You will simply have to find the ones that best define you and exploit them to the fullest.
Languages: this is the most classic of skills. Since our societies developed in a global and inter-communication manner, language proficiency has been the focus of organizations. The most valued languages in Spain are English, French and German, even so, the mastery of any other language is highly valued and, therefore, must be included. To indicate your level you must indicate if it is a “basic”, “intermediate” or “advanced” level and you must include the official certificate that accredits your knowledge and level in that language (if any).
Adaptability: we live in a globalized and digitalized society where markets, technological advances, and consumer priorities change constantly and very quickly. For this reason, it is very important and highly valued by organizations, to be able to adapt to the changes that arise. Since a person with adaptability will allow better integration and development of work teams and a better relationship with colleagues and the environment.
Proactivity: it is another of the skills most valued by the company. Showing initiative when carrying out projects and starting others is a characteristic that all organizations are looking for. In this way, you show the company your entrepreneurial character and your desire to contribute your wisdom and experience in your environment.
Versatility: some years ago since organizations stopped seeking both specializations and began to have the need for people with capacities in different areas. This is a consequence of the rising trend of change and speed of our society, as we have pointed out previously.
Communication skills: organizations seek to protect themselves in the market and in the consumer, which is why communication skills have taken such importance. It is important, therefore, to have the ability to communicate with both company members and external agents. You could include oratory courses, leadership, etc. that can show that you have worked in this field.
Technical knowledge: it is essential to include in your curriculum technical knowledge related to your profession. Thus, for example, a person with a graphic design study should indicate that he or she masters programs such as Illustrator or Photoshop.
Once you have identified which are the skills that best define you, you should keep in mind that the way to present them on paper is decisive. In order for the contribution of skills to have a value in itself, you must find a way to capture these skills on paper by making concise statements that leave no doubt. You must convey security.
These statements must be aimed at explaining what your person can contribute to the organization. You can do this by entering your strengths into each skill and qualifying how you use these strengths to get the results you want.

When we say that it is advisable to use powerful words when writing your strengths, we are referring to using positive words and short phrases that convey the idea quickly and easily. These are some examples:
When explaining the achievements it is important not to capture only the final result, that is, it is not worth saying “I have achieved this”. You should first explain the difficulty you have faced, then what solution you have found to that difficulty and, finally, the result of applying that solution. In this way, you bring out not only a success but also show your ability to solve problems and face the facts.
Although the story of the achievements may give rise to a long explanation, remember that it is a curriculum and that brevity is highly valued, since the person in charge of reading the CVs does not only have yours. Therefore, try to share only the most necessary information, without giving too many explanations.
