Perhaps you landed that job that you’ve wanted your whole life – the job of a mom, and congratulations on that. There’s really no job that is quite as fulfilling and as rewarding. However, having kids will not get the bills paid – unless you’re a mom of a child actor. This means that you will have to get back to work, but it can be quite difficult to do so after this time off. So, if you have plans to get into the working mood once again and you have no idea how, as you seem to have forgotten almost everything, take a look at these tips:

1. Explore your interests

You might have the same interests as you had when you weren’t a mom, but the time that you spent with your kid might have broadened your horizons a bit more. That is why the first thing you should do is ask yourself what kind of job you want and whether you grew new interests and acquired new skills in the meantime. The best way to do this is to have a cup of coffee with friends or relatives that have, in your opinion, interesting jobs, and pick their brains a bit for more information. If you, however, want to get back to your pre-child career, try to find new opportunities or volunteering options to fill in your resume.

2. Update your CV

Speaking of resumes, there are definitely some new skills that you acquired while being a stay-at-home mom. Many moms spend time in their kids’ schools, volunteering at certain events, which is a great thing. According to The Guardian, volunteering is a great thing to put in into your resume since it keeps your experience relevant and it shows that you’re proactive. There might also be moments during which you helped your friends in their online jobs, such as helping to set up a website or doing some light PR, which are also skills you can include in your CV.

3. Work on your education

Furthermore, make sure that you work a bit on your education. If you want to change your profession, think about getting a certain course which will help you a lot in the future. You can, for example, get a diploma of business that will help you set up your own business or simply become a better businesswoman. Also, doing a course in such a big city might be even better for your CV. On the other hand, no matter how much experience you have in your pre-child field, some things have probably changed during your time away, so it would be best to either browse online and do a bit of self-tutoring or do a certain course.

4. Get in touch with your contacts

Another thing that you can do is contact your old co-workers and check the situation with them. Nowadays, it’s very easy to stay in touch with your former colleagues via different social platforms, but it’s always better to get a cup of coffee and say that you’re want to be back in business. They might help you with this. And speaking of telling people about your new professional ideas…

5. Spread the word

Don’t be silent, and don’t keep your new pursuit for a job a secret. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 70% of new jobs are found through networking. This means that there are many people that can help you, and remember – the mouth-to-mouth recommendation is always the best recommendation. As you’re again a newbie, there certainly are people willing and able to help you.

6. Practice interviews

Lastly, don’t forget to practice interviews. You’re definitely not going to run a marathon without training, so do whatever you can to bring your best game on once the job interview comes. Once everything is said and done, you will see that looking for a job (for a second time) is a daunting, but definitely not a difficult task. After all, you have it all in you, and the only thing you need is a bit of motivation and self-confidence.
